Dr. Lisa Underwood

I was born in Fort Benning, Georgia, but ultimately landed in New England, and started my collegiate education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  I later received my bachelor’s degree followed by my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at the Ohio State University, where I was petitioned to join Phi Beta Kappa for scholastic achievement.  Since graduating, I have received numerous scholastic and community service awards. I have practiced in New York, New Hampshire and Massachusetts in multi- doctor, multi-disciplined practices.  I have now returned to Greenfield as the proprietor of Pioneer Valley Veterinary Hospital.  My main medical interests are internal medicine and soft tissue surgery, with focus on preventative medicine. I work closely with, and am the primary care physician for numerous police K-9 units.
Over the years, I have worked as an arm of the Department of Agriculture as a supervisory role at agricultural events throughout the state, testing draft horses and oxen to maintain a drug-free, competitive atmosphere.  My private interests include white water rafting, most competitive sports (especially football!), fall country fairs, the arts, and my pets, including a rather demanding parrot, a little black pug that engages in terrorist activities wherever she goes, and a foster hound that decided she was home.
I have been blessed to have a hard working, compassionate team, that strives to provide a clean, safe and congenial atmosphere to clients and their family pets, including the smaller, fuzzier creatures like rabbits, hamsters, rats and ferrets. We have excelled in dental and surgical procedures and offer state of the art facilities with Ultrasound, Digital Dental Radiographs, ECG & Capnography monitoring, and a Full In House Laboratory.
Office Manager

Judy

I began working at Pioneer Valley Veterinary Hospital in August of 2003. I graduated high school in 1994, followed by 2 years of studies at Mount Wachusett Community College. I received a certificate from Harcourt Learning Center in 2003, after completing their Veterinary Assistant course. Thanks to PVVH I have attended the Northeast Veterinary Conference in Orlando, Florida on a number of occasions. I am currently enrolled in other continuing education courses online.

I currently serve as the Office Manager at PVVH. When I first started working at PVVH, I had a 4 month old Boxer puppy, Dylan, who developed many genetic diseases Boxers are known for. He passed away at 12 1/2 yrs old due to heart complications.

I feel that the non-stop medical struggles we went through were probably the best continuing education I could have ever had! I have the doctors and technicians here at PVVH to thank for helping me keep him going comfortably for so many years!

I currently have another Boxer, “Funny McGee” and a cat, “Sheldon” at home who keep me busy and entertained. In 2005, I began working with The Greenfield Police Department K-9 Unit, fundraising for our local K-9 officers. I am very proud of the work that I have done with them.

Bookkeeper

Virginia

I have been working in the field of veterinary medicine since 1991. I started working at PVVH in 1994 assisting in the surgery ward while attending the animal sciences program at Holyoke Community College. I graduated with honors and became a certified veterinary technician in 1996. Since then, I have gained experience in all areas of the hospital – surgery ward, kennel, reception, office manager, and general assistant.

Outside of the field of veterinary medicine I have spent several years as an assistant chef, the manager of a small store, and the office manager and finance manager of a conference center. I am currently also working as the Financial Administrator of a small town in Franklin County; District Clerk for a local Water District; and bookkeeper for a company specializing in “homestyle” boarding and daycare for dogs. I also do bookkeeping and tax preparation on the side.

Technician / Inventory Manager

Holly, CVT

Holly has an Associates degree in Liberal Arts and Science from Mount Wachusett Community College. She received her Veterinary Technician license from Holyoke Community College in January of 2009. Holly likes to go to the beach and spend time with friends and family. Holly has two rabbits and a cat named “Leo”.
Doctor Assistant

Kristina

I have been working for PVVH since the summer of 2012. I started out in kennel, then moved my way up to receptionist and am now being trained as a doctor’s assistant, which I absolutely love! I have been around animals my entire life and love them all! I currently have 3 cats that have my heart, Rudy, Rico and Murph. I acquired Rudy and Rico from their previous owners who were looking to rehome them. They hit it off since day one. They are best friends. Then I acquired Murph as he wandered into my apartment one day. He was a stray I saw occasionally outside but was never able to catch him. I assume he saw my other kitties in the window and wanted to join. They all have their own unique personalities which is what I love most about animals. I look forward to continuing my education learning about animals’ health and behaviors. I love to spend my free time with my kitties, relaxing with my friends and going to the beach.
Head Receptionist

Olivia

I began working at PVVH in spring of 2014. I started in kennel, then I moved to reception after about a year. I have a growing family of animals including 2 dogs, a bird, a hamster and 2 rescue cats that were brought into PVVH as strays. I have previously owned hedgehogs as well as a rabbit. I began training in surgery and continue to learn more every day. It is very rewarding to be able to work with animals on a daily basis.

Lead Veterinary Technician

Caitlin, CVT

I began interning at PVVH in the fall of 2017 and instantly fell in love. I graduated Mount Ida College with a bachelors of science in January of 2018, soon after graduating PVVH offered me a full time technician position which I happily accepted! I have always had passion and love for animals and knew that I wanted to be in the veterinary field since I was a little girl. I have four animals in total, two of which I adopted from my college a black cat named Magneto and a Beagle named Gonzo. I also have a boxer named Rosco that I adopted as a puppy and a rescue pug named Milo.
Veterinary Technician

Chelsea

Chelsea started working at PVVH the summer of 2020 to follow her dream of working with animals after completing a veterinary assistant course. She is currently a kennel technician and training as a veterinary assistant. Outside of caring for animals at work she enjoys live music, crafts, and sunshine. Most of all though, she prefers to be home spending time with her family of rescued pets. This includes 4 dogs – Kyra, Nova, Luke, Chico…and Fish, her bearded dragon.
